In 1994 Elder Ric Thomas and his wife Sue founded The Other Side, Inc.  (which is an not-for-profit organization). In that same year Elder Ric and several brothers who had worshipped together in prison got together at the home of sister Joyce Akers, to discuss the problems that they were having concerning jobs, housing and to be a support for one another.  After a few months the group began to grow a part because of work schedules. Hallelujah, for the Jobs!

After realizing the need was much greater than imagined, especially for women, The Other side was born and began to provide clothing for both men and women, and temporary (Transitional) housing for women who didnt wish to return to their old environment. Up until now this was done in their home, with the vision of someday having Transitional homes for women and for men. In collaborating with churches, organizations, the judicial system as well as communities. The Other Side provides  temporary housing and some clothing, while our partners provide educational training (GED), drug and alcohol counseling, life skills and interview techniques.

In June 2004, The Love of God Dwelling Place opened; this is our first Transitional Home for women. To enter this home or the housing phase of The Other Side, one must be referred by a pastor, ministry, Department of Correction or an agency that has some knowledge or history of the individual.

They are also encouraged to attend bible studies and church on Sundays, and to attend their AA and NA and all court ordered meetings.

The Love of God is truly a home away form home, beautifully decorated, a very serene environment that also has a library with all types of books and tapes to help encourage the women
